Krav Maga Sparring Tips

Krav Maga Sparring Tips

Below are some Krav Maga Sparring tips that will help improve your Krav Maga training, there are many more things I could suggest but let’s start with these.

  • Get fit for purpose: First move, then move well, then move often, then move strongly, then with power & speed. Start with some general movement training and when you get better at moving add some Kettlebell training to strengthen movement, add some strength, power & endurance. The primary goal of fitness training should be to reduce the risk of injury, with performance the secondary goal.
  • Improve your striking: Striking is the foundation of most fighting systems. In the early stages of Krav Maga training students must develop a good base of striking and general movement. Like anything else in life you can’t be too good at the basic.
  • Think of each technique from a tactical point of view: In Krav Maga training there are often different techniques for defending what seems like the same attack. However each technique is there for a reason, certain variation depend on our position (our stance, our hands being up or down etc.) and others depend on how ‘ready’ we are, if we are more surprised our technique is going to be different than if we are anticipating an attack. Learn not only the technique but also the reason for it and when you would need to use it.
  • Practice: There are technical points to techniques that are there for reason, to make the technique effective and to keep you safe. If you train at full speed all the time these points can be ignored and you will be less effective in a real conflict. Train only as fast as you can perform the technique. Pressure test your drills yes, but spend more time training on practicing, this will make you better under pressure.
